The Stockings Were Hung By The Chimney With Care!

When the 7th District Federation Garden Clubs of NYS asked if I would participate in the 35th Candlelight Holiday Tour on November 11,2017, I was honored.  After all it was Veterans Day, I’m a Vet, how perfect! The only request was to have a live tree in place for decorating the week prior to the home tour.  I said no problem.  Oops, big problem.  All my tree sources dried up and I was faced with the daunting task of finding a 12-14 foot tree and have it delivered by November 6th. So down the yellow pages I go, coming up empty.  Then, happily Woody Aces returned my  call and said, “I think we can help you”!  Off I go to meet with Dave, the owner, and with in 5 minutes we find “the” tree.  But just to be sure, we continued touring the rest of the 1100 acres on a 4 wheeler and I had the time of my life. He not only delivered the tree (on that Sunday) but also assisted with set up and trimming. So, with the most perfectly beautiful tree in place, I’m set.  Not so fast.  There was the question of possibly having a working fireplace in time for the home tour. I have lived here 11 years and have never had a working fireplace. It was about time.  So I placed a call to Leroy Hearth and Home, they came, counseled, ordered, delivered and set up in record time, and just in time. What a tremendous difference-for both me and my guests! Hat’s off the Woody Acres, Leroy Hearth and Home, The 7th District Federation Garden Clubs of NYS, and to our supportive community for making this Candlelight tour a resounding success. And now for all to enjoy a grinch-proof Holiday Season at the Ellwanger Estate B&B.

Wineberries, Straight From the Garden

My mother has always been a huge fan of raspberries, but I’ve always found them to be too tart. I had never tasted wineberries before my time at the Ellwanger Estate Bed and Breakfast, but I’ve fallen in love with them. They have the same fresh and sweet flavor of raspberries without the sharp tartness. I would recommend Rosemary’s garden fresh wineberries to anyone. During my time as a hospitality intern at the Ellwanger Estate, we have picked wineberries over the last couple of weeks to create wonderful fruit masterpieces, such as fruit poodles, kiwi roses surrounded by exquisite fruit mosaics and delicious and ornate fruit parfaits. Our guests have been highly impressed by our fresh organic produce, and our dedication to providing a genuine farm to table dining experience. Rosemary introduced me to wineberries, and it has been a wonderful addition to my fruit repertoire. Come and let us delight you with some wineberries at the finale of their season!

With gratitude and high hopes of meeting you!

Wellness Travelers: Are you struggling to juggle a life in balance?

The Ellwanger Estate B&B offers a destination for guests who take an active role in seeking wellness, inspiration and self-improvement for a life in balance.

Wellness has become so top of mind. And this is especially true for the traveler. As the owner of the Ellwanger Estate B&B, as well as a nurse, midwife, preservationist, farmer, and environmentalist, we are paying much more attention to wellness as a lifestyle.

As travelers, you don’t have to give up your healthy habits on the road. We have created room environments conducive to sleep, breakfast offerings and grab and go items that are healthier, and offer everything from Yoga on the lawn, mediation in the Ellwanger Gardens, run/walks on the Genesee Riverway Trail, hiking in Highland Park, to allergy-friendly rooms. Health and wellness is built into the Ellwanger Estate B&B—from in-room air purifiers, PRANA mattresses, to the cleaning products that we use. A good part of wellness is connected to creating comfortable and relaxing spaces that rejuvenate. Lighting, sound, color, the extent to which nature is brought indoors, and ergonomics all come into play. In fact, recharge your Tesla batteries while you are out playing.

The Ellwanger Estate B&B wellness lifestyle is light years ahead of the “Hotel industry”, while adding a novel and superior experience, which is good news for everyone.

Ellwanger Estate 10 New Year Resolutions for 2017

Ever had trouble sticking with your New Year’s resolution? We have a remedy: Go on vacation or staycation! At the Ellwanger Estate B&B there’s a solution for every resolution you could make, from healthier eating, a great escape, changing our perspective, find meaning and break with our day-to day routines, to discovering your adventurous side. So in 2017, why not pair your self-enhancement with an amazing stay? The Ellwanger Estate B&B is where you can launch the New Year, check off your to-do list and finally make a change.

  1. Eat Your Breakfast

From the Ellwanger Estate’s roasted pear with poached eggs to the mouthwatering spicy sausage frittata (along with every delicious dish in between), the Ellwanger Estate B&B serves amazing breakfasts that put to shame your local chain motel’s stale cereal selection. Enjoy a gourmet farm to table breakfast.

  1. Get Fit

There’s a surge at the local gyms at the start of each New Year. In 2017, do something different and try your hand at a brand-new sports skill while on vacation. Discover your inner self at Ellwanger Estate, where you can hike, bike, row and walk the Genesee river trial or the Eire canal. Afterwards head to College Town for cocktails or Swiftwater for a local brew and dinner.

  1. Become an Artist

This is the year to explore your creative side. You could take a class at the Ellwanger Estate B&B where you’ll paint to your heart’s content. Consider outdoor studios at the Ellwanger Estate-perfect for plein air painting. Or attend an artist-led encaustic workshop held every Fall.

  1. Finally Finish Reading a Book…or Writing One

Spend an entire vacation reading? Sounds great to us. There is that book that is just begging to be finished this year. Ellwanger Estate B&B library stocks books galore! Grab a stack of books, a chair, and a cooling glass of the Ellwanger Estate B&B homemade lemonade, and then read to the sound of serenading birds.

Ellwanger Estate B&B also bills itself as a writer’s retreat, where beautifully decorated rooms come with antique writing desks and few distractions. Or sequester yourself on our veranda, watch the sunset and natures finest views, and be utterly inspired for your poetry, prose, or screenplay … as long as you don’t get distracted by the view.

  1. Go Green

Whether it’s to get eco-inspired and learn some new strategies or to reward yourself for recycling and conserving throughout the year, you deserve a green getaway in 2017. Check out Ellwanger Estate B&B eco-friendly where we are 5 out of 5 leaves green with Audubon.

  1. Learn How to Relax

Kick off the year with a day of renewal, grab a friend or your loving spouse, and embark on a rejuvenating B&B getaway. Try a massage or Yoga on the front lawn (every Saturday morning form May- September) at Ellwanger Estate B&B.

  1. Live a Little

If 2016 felt a bit dull, make sure 2017 is anything but. Unleash your inner adventurer and book a stay. You can charter a sunset cruise of the Erie Canal on the Sam Patch, paddled board at the Irondequoit Bay, hot air balloon on Canandaigua Lake, plus many more adventures awaiting you.

  1. Renew Your Love

It doesn’t have to be a big anniversary year if you’re looking to renew your vows. Plan a ceremony under the beech tree or on the veranda, with a champagne toast for two at the Ellwanger Estate B&B. It’s a perfectly simple way to underscore your lifelong commitment to each other.

  1. Just Splurge

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with stretching your budget. Historically, my splurges have always included: 1. Something luscious- like a massage with Brenda Washington followed by dinner at Rooney’s. 2. Something athletic-like a visit to Midtown Athletic Club. 3. And lastly something scholarly-like a visit to Artisan Works or Memorial Art Gallery.

  1. Spend More Time with Friends.

A getaway with your friends may be the key to renewed sanity. Gather your BFF’s, soul sister, partner in crime and the list goes on, and spend a vacation shopping, golfing, hiking, biking, and exploring the local breweries and wineries, and just catching up. Your friends’ getaway will create memories that last a lifetime and is sure to become a yearly tradition.
